When it comes to the “double chin”—or submental fullness—we’re always on the lookout for the most effective way to reduce fat under the chin, decrease any accompanying sagging skin and jowls, and improve the jawline. One such option involves combining two effective treatments: liposuction and ThermiTight®.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that effectively and permanently removes deposits of fat from specific areas of the body (in this case, the chin) through a vacuum-suction tube inserted under the skin. ThermiTight is a non-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to smooth, firm, and tighten loose skin all over the body (in this case, the neck). Together, these treatments work in tandem to re-shape and re-define your jawline; teamwork at its best.
How does this treatment duo work?
The procedure (which includes both treatments same-day) can be performed with local anesthesia alone, or, more commonly, with the addition of some light intravenous sedation. Because full general anesthetic is not necessary, recovery is, therefore, shorter, and the procedure may be performed on patients who may not be medically fit to have a full general anesthetic administered.
What is recovery like?
There is very minimal downtime associated with this procedure, although a post-procedure compression garment must be worn continuously for about two days, and as much as possible for the following 10 to 14 days (mostly evenings and overnight). Occasional bruising and swelling is common but usually resolves fairly quickly with the use of Arnica.
What results can patients expect?
Results take several months to reach their maximum visibility, but are long-lasting. As with all liposuction cases, fat reduction is permanent, and the skin tightening effects should last for a number of years. The ThermiTight treatment can be repeated every few years to enhance the effects.
