We wanted to take a few moments to introduce our amazing surgeons – for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting them.
Dr. Robert Shenker
The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic’s principle plastic surgeon and medical director, Dr. Robert Shenker is the clinic’s founding father and backbone. His list of accomplishments is long—he’s the former Chief of Surgery and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Cambridge Memorial, an adjunct professor at McMaster University, a lecturer, a father of three and an adoring husband—but his passion for his craft and for improving the confidence and lives of his patients through plastic surgery is what distinguishes him from the rest.
A few things to know about him:
- He has worked tirelessly to create a cutting-edge breast reconstruction program right here in the Tri-Cities area. Along with the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation and their community partners, he has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment to provide breast reconstruction for breast cancer survivors.
- He has a special interest in patient safety in outpatient surgical centres, and has lectured on the subject at international plastic surgery conferences.
- When he’s not hard at work he enjoys skiing, cycling, his two German Shepherds (Penny and Mocha), long talks with his wife, and stealing his boys away to teach them a little bit about the world.
- Every aspect of a patient’s journey matters to Dr. Shenker, and, as one member of this team of plastic surgeons, he’s eager to share in more of these journeys for as long as he wields his scalpel.
Dr. Stephanie Ma
With talent to spare and exceptionally skilled hands, Dr. Stephanie Ma is a brilliant plastic surgeon and a valued asset to The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic team. After her comprehensive and rigorous five year long plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at McMaster University, Dr. Ma completed a reconstructive and cosmetic surgery fellowship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But that wasn’t enough for our Dr. Ma! She thereafter sought additional training in breast reconstruction and microsurgery in Barcelona, Spain. Once back home, she joined the team at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. Complimenting her kindhearted and warm personality is Dr. Ma’s commitment to the smallest of details, both in the planning and execution of her surgical procedures.
A few things to know about her:
- With special interests in breast surgery, body contouring, and other female-specific surgeries, Dr. Ma’s surgical repertoire is boundless.
- Dr. Ma is a plastic surgeon who is known for performing meticulous, artistic and precise surgery, making her equally suited to complex reconstructive surgical procedures and aesthetic procedures alike.
- Dr. Ma is fully bilingual–having grown-up in Montreal, and completed her degree in physiotherapy before entering medical school and pursuing a career in plastic surgery.
- Dr. Ma’s patients feel confident in her ability, warmed by her fresh outlook, and assured through her individual approach to every aspect of their journey.
Dr. Amy Chesney
An A-list plastic surgeon, and proud graduate of McMaster University’s Plastic Surgery Program, Dr. Amy Chesney was hand-selected by her friend and mentor, Dr. Robert Shenker, to join The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic team of plastic surgeons in 2013.
Specifically, Dr. Chesney excels at aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, abdominal contouring, and labiaplasty. Her true passion, however, lies in restoring the confidence of new mothers; having witnessed the joy cosmetic surgery can bring, she has dedicated her career to helping her patients restore their bodies after childbirth.
A few things to know about her:
- Dr. Chesney has focused her attention and her talents on surgeries that strengthen and empower women.
- As a new mother herself, Dr. Chesney has gained a unique perspective on female needs following the birth of her daughter.
- Her surgical approach encourages a focus on the health of the mind and the body, in order to allow all women, including new moms, to live happily and to feel strong and empowered.
- Dr. Chesney originally started her education in the Engineering department at Queen’s University.
