What’s a Blue Peel and How Does It Work?

Here’s How The ZO® Controlled Depth Peel™ Can Transform Your Skin

This peel is a mult-tasking game changer for weary skin

The ZO® Controlled Depth Peel™ has been a patient favourite at our clinic for years, a staple on our roster of advanced in-office skin treatments. Also known as the ZO Blue Peel, this non-invasive procedure provides breakthrough results for scarring, severe laxity, severe texture damage and advanced melasma.

In the past, the most efficient way to address skin concerns like this was with laser, light and radiofrequency devices. But now your skin can get a fresh start with a peel that goes above and beyond.

Our administrator Ashley tries a blue peel

How does the blue peel work?

The blue peel peels away old, dull layers of dead skin and pigmentation using a principal exfoliating agent called trichloroacetic acid (TCA). The peel is formulated to awaken the fibroblast cells that produce collagen in the skin. This peel adds a lifting and tightening effect in addition to improving skin tone and texture.
At The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic we offer three levels of varying intensity for a blue peel: 15% or 20% during regular appointments, and a 26% peel that takes place during surgery. During your consultation, a skincare expert will discuss your options and help you choose the percentage that’s right for your desired results.

Why is it called a blue peel?
This acid is mixed with blue colouring so that your Beauty Nurse® expert can monitor the depth and effectiveness of the peel for optimal results.

Blue peels do require a short downtime

Blue peel patients should prepare for about 3-4 days of social downtime. Over this period, the skin may have a slight blue haze, and it will begin to peel and flake off. Use this time to catch up on your favourite shows, do some writing, organize your pantry, or work remotely. By the time you’re done recovering, your skin will be renewed.

Consider pairing your surgery with a blue peel

If you’re already planning a surgery, talk to us about adding the ZO® Controlled Depth Peel to your surgical procedure. That way, you’ll heal as your skin renews and you can enjoy both results together once you’ve recovered. This treatment also pairs beautifully with a Forever Young BBL™ Photo-Rejuvenation treatment series for patients who are seeking even more significant improvements to their skin.
