Are You a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Consider the following to determine if you’re a good candidate for breast augmentation.

Breast Volume

You feel your breasts are too small for your frame or your aesthetic preferences.

Breast Symmetry

You are bothered by one of your breasts being noticeably smaller than the other.

Breast Sagging

Your breast skin should be firm and elastic, and your nipples should point forward and rest above the breast crease without support.

Health Status

You should be in overall good health, free from medical conditions that might hinder healing or increase surgical risks.

How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Our plastic surgeons typically perform breast augmentation while you’re under general anesthesia. Your surgeon will begin by making a small incision, either along the edge of the areola, in the breast crease, or in the armpit, depending on the best approach for your chosen implants. The implants are then carefully positioned either above (subglandular) or below (submuscular) the chest muscle to achieve the desired look. Our surgeons use advanced techniques and dissolvable stitches to minimize scarring and promote a smooth recovery.

For patients selecting fat transfer, we perform liposuction to harvest fat from another area of your body, which is then injected into the breasts to enhance volume naturally.

Breast Augmentation Options

When considering breast augmentation, it’s essential to choose the options that best align with your body type, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals. We offer a range of choices to help you achieve the results you envision.

  • Implant Types: Choose from silicone or saline implants, each offering different benefits regarding feel, appearance, and cost.
  • Implant Shapes and Profiles: Choose round or anatomical (teardrop) shapes and select from various profiles (low, moderate, high) to achieve the fullness and projection you desire.
  • Incision Locations: Discuss your incision options with your surgeon, including periareolar, inframammary, or transaxillary.
  • Fat Transfer: For those seeking a more subtle enhancement, fat transfer breast augmentation uses your body’s natural fat to create a modest increase in breast volume. Fat transfer is often combined with implants for the best outcome.

Your surgeon will guide you through these options during your consultation, ensuring you feel confident and informed about your decision.

Combining Procedures

We often combine breast augmentation with a breast lift or tummy tuck surgery for more extensive results.

Breast Augmentation With Lift

This procedure combines a breast augmentation with a breast lift, which can improve breast volume, position, and contour. Breast implants alone cannot improve breast sagging, and they may actually make it worse.

Breast Augmentation With Tummy Tuck (Mommy Makeover)

After having children, many women want to restore lost breast volume and repair a lax, sagging abdomen. Adding a tummy tuck to your breast augmentation (a combination procedure called a Mommy Makeover) enables you to get back your pre-baby body—or even better!

How Long Does It Take To Recover From Breast Augmentation?

Recovery from breast augmentation varies, but most patients can follow these general guidelines:

  • First Few Days: You will have bandages on your incisions and wear a soft surgical bra to help with swelling and support. Your breasts may feel tight, heavy, or swollen, but you can manage discomfort with pain medication. Light daily activities like showering and walking are typically fine.
  • Within 3 to 4 Days: The initial swelling following the procedure typically resolves within a few days. Most patients can return to work or regular daily routines that are not physically demanding.
  • 2 to 6 Weeks: Residual swelling may take a few weeks to a month to disappear. Continue to avoid high-impact activities or heavy lifting. You’ll have an appointment with your surgeon about 2 weeks after your surgery.
  • After 6 Weeks: Resume all activities, including exercise, as your surgeon advises. Your scars will continue to heal and fade over the course of a year.

Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions to support a smooth and safe recovery.

FAQ

How do I choose the right implant size?
Your surgeon will help you choose the best implant size by considering your body frame, desired look, lifestyle, and long-term goals. You’ll have the opportunity to try different sizes during your consultation.
What do breast augmentation scars look like?
Breast augmentation scars are typically small and strategically placed to be as discreet as possible. Depending on the incision location you choose—such as along the edge of the areola, under the breast fold, or in the armpit—scars are usually well-hidden within natural skin folds. Over time, they generally fade and become less noticeable with proper care.
How long do breast implants last?
Breast implants are now more durable and safer than ever, so there is no set time frame for replacing them. If you’re satisfied with how your implants look and feel and are experiencing no complications, replacement may not be necessary.

However, since implants are not lifetime devices, they may need to be replaced at some point. We recommend routine follow-up visits every 1 to 2 years to monitor your implants’ condition and ensure your peace of mind.
How much does breast augmentation cost in Waterloo-Kitchener?
Breast augmentation costs vary based on your needs, the type of implants selected, and the surgical technique used. We encourage you to schedule a consultation for a personalized quote tailored to your goals.

We offer financing options to help make your desired look attainable.
