Part 1: What makes TCSC so special?

Navigating the world of Cosmetic Surgery can feel like finding your way through a jungle.
We know how daunting it can feel to choose a clinic, especially when considering something that has as much nuance and gravitas as aesthetic surgery or non-surgical cosmetic treatment.

Hi, I’m Dr. Robert Shenker, the Owner and Medical Director at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. Welcome to a new series, in which we’ll be giving you an in-depth look at what sets us apart.

What makes The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic different from other clinics in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, in Ontario, and in Canada?

What keeps our patients coming back? Why has this clinic been operating, uninterrupted, in the same great location for close to 40 years? Why is picking us a choice that we know you’ll be happy you made?

We love answering these questions! I’m here to guide you through some important facts, insights, and truths about our clinic that you might not know.

Let’s start with our roots, where the story begins.

We’ve always been here for you, and we continue to keep that promise.
You may know that TCSC is recognized for consistent, great results; but did you know that we’ve been here for almost four decades? The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic has roots in the Kitchener-Waterloo community. Great patient care and meticulous surgery has been done right here in our beautiful heritage building for 40 years. While a great deal of innovation, education, and change has taken place, we stand firm on a foundation of quality care and superior results.

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic was born when Dr. Peter Wyshynsky purchased this beautiful and historic home from the Seagram family in the 1980s. After moving his practice from his old facility at 18 Pine Street, across from the Grand River Hospital, Dr. Wyshynski provided outstanding surgical care for more than 2 decades at the new Albert street location. When I purchased this clinic from Dr.  Wyshynski in 2007, I committed to carrying on his legacy of surgical quality and his commitment to patient care.

Everything you need, under one roof.
It might seem obvious that a surgical clinic should offer patients a full spectrum of aesthetic services and that the surgeon should treat their own patients in-house. But it’s increasingly common for aesthetic clinics to outsource, with operating rooms that are run by nameless, faceless corporate conglomerates. Choosing a clinic that is owned by a single surgeon-proprietor (like we are) has been proven over and over again to be a safer option in every respect. My team and I obsess over every detail that goes into achieving outstanding results, keeping our patients safe, and making everyone feel comfortable at every step of the process.

At some other clinics it’s very possible that you’ll attend one site for a consultation, and undergo your surgical procedure in another facility or even in another city. At the Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, we don’t believe in that sort of inconsistency.

We know that having everything in-house keeps our patients safer, ensures better results, allows for convenience, and lets us offer consistent care under one holistic umbrella.

 Our team is full-time.
We operate with a full-time team of doctors, nurses and administrators, and we have done so since we started.

Why does a full-time team matter so much? The negative impact that an ever-changing, revolving-door team of surgeons, anesthesiologists and operating room nurses has on patient safety is well documented, and always bad for patient care. To highlight just how important that is; If you choose to have a procedure at a facility where the surgeon is not the medical director, the chances of your surgeon operating with a surgical team they’ve never met before are a lot higher. That can’t be good!

Having surgery at a facility that is not owned and led by your surgeon can have implications for team dynamics as well. Our Scrub Nurses, Administrators, Surgeons, and Beauty NurseⓇ team spend every day together. Over the decades that we have worked together, we’ve built a strong understanding of our goals, and through great team communication, we operate like a well-oiled machine–in and out of the operating room. I recently wrote about how my scrub nurse, Patti often knows what I’m thinking with just a glance.

We recognize the implications that this type of team dynamic has for your safety, for the quality and perfection of your surgical results, and for the comfort of the environment you step into. We uphold these values of a strong core team because we are committed to your safety and satisfaction at every step of the surgical process.

… But that’s not all!
Come back next month for another look at some more essential pillars to our success and value as a clinic, when our series continues.

Next time, we’ll be talking about our unique qualifications, our commitment to your safety and happiness, and how we continually innovate to stay ahead of the curve.
