Beautiful arms to bare. - The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic

Beautiful arms to bare.

There’s a reason why women like Jennifer Aniston are so admired for their sculpted arms. At a certain point, the dreaded arm wobble sneaks up on many of us and the carefree days of wearing sleeveless garments seem a world away. So how did we get here?

There are a few factors to consider that contribute to the arm-wobble phenomenon:

  • Sun damage that contributes to skin laxity
  • Weight gain and / or weight loss
  • Loss of muscle density
  • Genetic predisposition

Regardless of the cause, a major contributing factor to these uninvited ‘wings’ is loose skin and excess fat. There are ways to non-invasively address skin laxity such as fitness techniques and skin tightening devices. These approaches are effective in the early stages of the cosmetic concern, but for cases requiring greater intervention a brachioplasty (arm lift) procedure is an ideal solution.

What is involved in an arm lift procedure?

A brachioplasty begins with your surgeon making an incision from the elbow to the underarm. The incision will be placed inconspicuously along the bottom of the inner arm in order minimize any visible scarring. When needed, the incision may extend onto the chest. In cases where there is excess adipose (fat) tissue present, the surgeon may integrate liposuction into the surgery to realize an ideal cosmetic outcome. Once the unwanted fat has been removed and the connective and muscle tissue is tightened, the excess skin is trimmed and redraped to form a renewed and rejuvenated arm shape.

The recovery process of a brachioplasty procedure requires a couple of weeks of healing before the normal function of the arms can be expected. The final cosmetic outcome will evolve over the weeks and months following the procedure as the tissues heal and settle into place. Maintaining a stable weight and a regular exercise routine will help to maintain the results of the arm lift surgery over the long term.

Regaining the boldness to bare beautiful arms certainly holds its appeal, especially when the warm weather beckons us to wear airy layers. Curious about whether or not an arm lift is right for you?
