Cosmetic vaginal rejuvenation is increasingly popular.

Labiaplasty is the most popular procedure for vaginal rejuvenation at our Waterloo practice.

What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the labia. During this procedure, the excess skin is removed and sculpted to create a more symmetrical shape. As the labia have inner lips which are thinner (labia minora), and larger outer lips (labia majora), your surgeon will discuss the best course of treatment and your options to address your unique concerns and physicality.

Why choose labiaplasty?

Women choose labiaplasty for a myriad of reasons. The general conception is that labiaplasty is always performed for cosmetic reasons, which isn’t actually the case. Some women are uncomfortable with the shape, size, or symmetry of their vaginal lips and do choose this surgery for cosmetic reasons. But stretched or enlarged labia can also cause physical problems, including:

  • Pain or discomfort during sex
  • Skin rashes
  • Hygiene issues
  • Trapped moisture
  • Discomfort during everyday activities like riding a bicycle

Labiaplasty is a potential solution for all of these concerns.

What to expect after surgery?

Every patient has her own recovery journey, but after a labiaplasty surgery, most patients are able to walk and sit that same day. We recommend that patients try to engage in very light activity, such as going for a walk, but leave the more intense workouts for approximately a month after surgery. Patients are also encouraged to avoid sexual intercourse for about 4 to 6 weeks to allow full healing.

What’s the difference between labiaplasty and vaginoplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery that improves the appearance of the labia and reduces discomfort. Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the inner vaginal canal. While we currently do not offer vaginoplasty at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, our surgeons can discuss the best course of treatment for your specific concerns.
