Get to know Dina!

Get to know our newest team member

If you visited us in the last few months, you may have been lucky enough to meet the newest addition to our team, Registered and Aesthetic Nurse Dina Kabiljagic!

In case you haven’t had the honour, we thought we’d give you a chance to get to know Dina. She joins our Beauty Nurse team with a Bachelor of Nursing and Health Science degree from Ryerson University. Dina began her nursing journey at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as a medical-surgical nurse. In fact, one of Dina’s mentors during her training at Cambridge hospital was none other than Beauty Nurse®️ Lauren, our wonderful perioperative nurse at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic.  All these years later, Lauren and Dina are reunited again as TCSC Beauty Nurses!

Dina is passionate about educating and empowering her patients. When she’s not at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, she loves spending time in nature and quality time with her husband and two lovely kids.

Here’s our Q+A with Dina.

Hi, thanks for talking with us! Let’s start at the beginning. What brought you to the world of medical aesthetics?

Hi! What brought me to this world is the drive to combine two concepts that I have a great passion for: health and beauty. I love being part of the process of helping someone look and feel their best, and helping them build self-esteem and confidence within their own skin.

What excites you about your work?

I am always excited to get to know my patients as individuals and to understand what achieving their aesthetic goals would mean to them. I have the privilege of supporting patients through the process of their treatment, and I get to witness their overall transformation from the beginning to the end. I find this incredibly exciting and rewarding!

What kind of roles did you hold in the past?

I obtained my Bachelors of Nursing and Health Science degree from Ryerson University and first began my nursing journey at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as a medical-surgical nurse. This is where my love for nursing accelerated and my passion for helping others grew. However, before I became a nurse, I worked as a family photographer and got to spend most days playing peek-a-boo and taking pictures of adorable little babies.

What is your favorite treatment and why?

I have many favorites! But if I have to choose, it would be quick lunchtime Cosmetic Botox Injections. Whenever my patients complain they look angry, tired, or sad because of their “II” lines between their eyebrows, I love to educate them on how Cosmetic Botox works and how it would address those particular concerns. Most people use Cosmetic Botox to target mild-to moderate-to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. We are human and full of emotions that we freely express on our faces, but those years of sly smirks and full-blown belly laughs take their toll on our appearance. Simply by smoothing certain lines on the face we can minimize the unwanted effects of all those happy moments.  Also, those lines can be caused by loss of dermal collagen and elasticity, genetics and dehydrated skin. The procedure is simple, I inject the Botox directly into the underlying muscle, which then relaxes and smooths out the appearance of the skin.

What’s one thing you wish all your patients would do?

Without a doubt, one thing I wish all my patients would do is to protect their skin by wearing a sunblock. Thirty seconds of applying a sunscreen in the morning will save you years of regret for not doing so. Adequate sun protection does not only help protect skin from damaging UV rays and the resulting sun spots, but also decreases the chance of developing skin cancer. Not to scare you, but according to the World Health Organization (WHO)  every 3rd cancer diagnosed is skin cancer. Scary right?

What’s one thing you want your patients to know?

The one thing that I would like all my patients to know is simple: “Healthy Habits Create Healthy Skin.”  It is a pretty well known fact that you feel better when you look better.  Having a daily skin care routine (which can be combined with your oral care and hair routine)  can help you look your best and start your day with your right foot forward. In fact, those who take the time to wash their face in the morning and at night are more likely to make healthy choices throughout their day. Every aspect of our health is connected. Taking care of your skin goes beyond your appearance. As the largest organ you have, your skin is essential to your general health. If you take care of it, it will take care of you!  Having a healthy skin care routine, may help motivate you to eat better and even exercise. It all builds a happier, healthier you!

What do you love about TCSC?

Before I even became part of the Beauty Nurse team at the Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, I was quite aware of Dr. Shenker and his team’s reputation within the Cosmetic Industry. This is very important to me as I stand behind what I do and take pride in helping my patients reach their desired outcomes from beginning to end. I love that The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic is truly a state-of-the-art clinic that provides one-stop shopping for patients with a variety of treatment options, supported by highly skilled and educated individuals, who are experts in their field. When you walk into this clinic, you are in the hands of experts, and you will always feel taken care of. I also truly love the fact that TCSC and I share the similar values of prioritizing patient centered care, in a non-pressurized and non-judgmental space. Dr. Shenker and the team at TCSC have really created a special environment here.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

I love the simple things in life such as going for hikes, camping and being in nature as much as possible.  I love doing the little things that feed my soul. I live in Kitchener with my two lovely children and my husband and I love being adventurous with them!

Thank you Dina!
