Common Questions About Breast Augmentation: The Breast Surgery Facts You Should Know

If you’re considering breast augmentation, we bet you have questions. “Boob jobs” or breast surgery have so many variations and there’s a lot to learn. That’s why it’s so important to choose a surgeon you can trust. Before you have breast augmentation, come in for a consultation with our surgical experts.

There are a number of  commonly asked questions we get asked during consultations for breast surgery. If you’re considering having cosmetic breast surgery, here are some answers to the questions we hear every day.

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic Team is here to help make your breast augmentation a success

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in Waterloo has a state of the art operating facility with a skilled team. Our decades of experience in this heritage building equip us to make your breast surgery a success from consultation through to happy results.

How long will my breast surgery results last?

The aim of all breast augmentations is to offer results that last for many years, and ideally for life. Breasts  naturally change with weight gain and loss, pregnancy, and other natural causes like menopause. We offer comprehensive guides to all our patients to help you heal in a way that maximizes the results of your breast surgery. This way you can enjoy your beautiful results throughout your lifetime. Choosing an experienced surgeon like Dr. Ma or Dr. Shenker, with a successful portfolio of successful breast augmentations is also a great way to make sure you’re getting results that stick around.

As Dr. Shenker put it once in an Instagram Live session for our online audience, “Of course, if you chainsmoke and go on a milkshake and fries diet for a year, you might compromise your results.” Luckily, most of us aren’t taking this route! Dr. Shenker went on to share that living a consistently healthy and balanced lifestyle will give your surgical results the best chance to stay consistent. You can also take measures like ensuring you honour the healing process, rest properly, and avoid smoking to give the body every possible measure to heal beautifully and adjust to the great new changes you’ve made.

No, we do not!

Will health insurance cover my Breast Augmentation?

OHIP, the Ontario provincial health care plan, will not pay for any element of any operation that is done for cosmetic reasons. That part is up to you! But don’t worry, we can help you find excellent financing options. If you have questions about financing your surgery, just ask any of our patient coordinators.

Am I a good candidate for a “boob job?”

Whether or not you’re a good  candidate for breast augmentation depends on a number of factors. We will review your medications and medical history  to make sure that you can safely be put under anaesthesia.  Our presurgical screening is in-depth, and everyone involved in your surgery will be on board to offer you the safest, most comfortable surgery possible. What about Gynecomastia?

If you’re a man worried about excess fat on your chest, you’re not alone. Men often come to us looking for a lasting solution for male breasts, “man boobs,” or excess fatty tissue on the chest. Some drive to our Waterloo clinic from regions like Toronto, Hamilton, London, or Guelph –– especially for gynecomastia surgery because Dr. Shenker has a legacy of happy clients who have smooth, natural-looking gynecomastia results. Excess chest tissue for men is a common concern; so if you’re looking for a solution, you’re not alone. Dr. Shenker actually underwent this surgery himself years ago, so he performs this surgery with  thoughtfulness and precision knowing how healing and transformative the process can be.

What is bra roll liposuction?

Bra roll liposuction targets that excess fat along the bra line, the rolls that fall over the band of your bra. Liposuction uses a vacuum attached to a cannula to suck away excess fat tissue for a smoother, more contoured appearance. Patients often ask about liposuction for the bra line because it’s an area that’s hard to target with exercise. Even if you’re healthy and toned, you might find that these areas with stubborn excess fat are the trickiest to get rid of. Liposuction can be a long-lasting solution to refresh the appearance of this area. Ask Dr. Ma or Dr. Shenker whether or not liposuction is right for you when you come in for your surgical consultation.

“Last week I underwent a rather extensive surgery; Bilateral Breast Reduction, Extended Abdominoplasty, muscle repair and liposuction. . Dr. Shenker is a very skilled surgeon and I had no hesitations about the surgery. He’s genuinely a NICE guy and I’ll never forget him serving me a shot of espresso while I was in recovery, so cool! The entire surgical team, from Ashley for pre-op matters, Nurse Ange who didn’t leave my side from beginning to end, Dr. Nicholas (Anesthesiologist) for making me feel so at ease, and Nurse Lauren for my post-op care have all been fantastic. I’m only 5 days post-op and writing this review while still recovering, but I can’t be more grateful for this team of amazing people. Thank you!”
