Today, we’ve asked Natalie Jakobowska, our Aesthetic Nurse Specialist and expert in all things skincare and laser, to take some time out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for us.
1. First, tell us a bit about your role on The Beauty Nurse® team at TCSC?
I am the laser and skin nurse at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. My role is to evaluate the skin concerns of a patient and to help them meet their skin goals by developing a treatment plan for their individual needs. I perform various laser and skin procedures for correction, rejuvenation and prevention. I also develop skin care regimens for patients that consist of medical grade products to help achieve optimal skin health.
2. What inspired you to become an Aesthetic Laser Nurse Specialist?
What I truly find fulfilling about cosmetic nursing is the opportunity to combine all of my nursing knowledge and experience with my creativity to make a positive impact in the lives of my patients on a daily basis. It is especially satisfying to hear feedback from patients about the difference I’ve made to their self esteem and confidence, particularly when it comes to improving skin concerns such as acne, rosacea, and sun damage.
3. What led you to the team at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic?
I have always strived to be the best person I can be, and this mentality guides the choices I have made in my career. Dr. Shenker has tirelessly led TCSC to be one of the most reputable plastic surgery clinics and has held our whole team to the highest standard, so naturally, I was attracted to TCSC’s strong reputation of excellence. Under the guidance of Dr. Shenker, and the wonderful staff here, I am learning cutting-edge techniques, and developing myself on a continual basis. Since joining the team, I have never looked back.
4. What is your best piece of skincare advice?
My best piece of skincare advice is to wear sunscreen daily, year round, and to exfoliate regularly.
5. What does your skincare routine look like?
Here’s a glimpse of my regular skincare routine:
AM:
- Cleanse face with ZO Hydrating Cleanser
- Apply SkinMedica Lytera Skin Brightening Complex
- Apply SkinMedica AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cream
- Apply TIZO 3 Sunscreen SPF 40
PM:
- Cleanse face with ZO Hydrating Cleanser
- Tone skin with Obaji Pore Therapy Toner
- Apply SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum
- Apply SkinMedica Retinol 1.0
- Apply SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream
I also like to maintain my skin with Forever Young BBL treatments approximately four times per year, and at least one MicroLaserPeel per year. I have oily and acne prone skin, so this really helps maintain my skin and prevent serious breakouts!
6. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
What I love most about my job is the relationships I have developed with my patients. During my tenure with TCSC I have had the privilege to meet so many amazing people and have been able to help many reach their skin goals. The gratification I get from this reinforces why I have chosen a career as a cosmetic nurse with TCSC.
7. What is your favourite part about connecting with patients?
I enjoy connecting with my patients through discussion on their struggles with skin problems as I have gone through similar experiences myself. This helps develop a relationship built on trust. To me, connecting on this level creates an ideal atmosphere for helping patients the best way I can.
8. What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies?
I love reading, cooking, volunteering and travelling. I also love spending time with friends, family, and my Bichon fur baby Mishka!
9. Share one fun fact about yourself!
I was born in Poland and came to Canada when I was 7 years old. I still speak fluent Polish!
