What’s the difference between Skinvive™ and other dermal fillers?

Many injectable fillers affect the shape or contours of your face, but don’t address the quality of the skin itself. Fillers like JUVEDERM® may restore fullness where it’s depleted as an outcome of aging, or contour the face. Why does my skin change with age?

Everyone’s skin tends to show signs of wear and sun damage over time. Factors like age, climate, environment, skincare regimen, diet, and overall health affect the appearance of our skin. We also naturally produce less of the elastin and collagen that contributes to a bright-eyed look and a youthful-looking complexion. 

What factors affect the moisture levels of skin?

Our skin is composed of approximately 30% water. This number fluctuates with hydration internally (eg. drinking lots of water) and externally (eg. using a Beauty Nurse® recommended moisturizer). Each layer of the skin has a varying water concentration. The outermost layer, known as the stratum corneum, plays a crucial role in retaining moisture, and its water content can range from 10% to 30%. 

How much moisture does skin lose at each phase of life?

Our skin produces less moisture and needs more support to stay hydrated as we age. Let’s take a look at how the moisture levels in our skin change with age.

• 20s: At this stage, skin is well-hydrated and retains moisture well.
• 30s: As we get older, the skin’s ability to retain and hold moisture decreases and experiences a 1-2% yearly loss in hydration.
• 40s: The continued decline of natural collagen and elastin impact elasticity and moisture retention, with an average 2-3% decline in hydration yearly.
• 50s and older: By now we’ve hopefully gained much wisdom, but we’re also losing more hydration than in decades before. Drier skin, folds and wrinkles become more noticeable. At this point the annual average loss of moisture is up to 3-4% each year.
