Barb shares her experience with this safe and effective hand filler treatment.
Our hands tend to betray our age more than any other body part. Their delicate skin is exposed to our environment as much as our face, though we usually take less care to protect them! As a result, our hands are dehydrated, damaged, and wrinkled, and bones and tendons are accentuated due to volume loss. When we reach this point, we wish we could turn back the hands of time.
This was certainly the case for our beloved Patient Coordinator/Financial Liaison Barb, so she opted for hand rejuvenation with RADIESSE® at our Waterloo, ON, clinic. RADIESSE is a dermal filler made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. It was the first filler deemed safe and effective by the FDA to correct lost volume in aging hands, minimizing the visibility of veins and tendons for a smooth, natural-looking result. (JUVÉDERM® VOLITE™ is another injectable treatment used for the hands.) Unlike other dermal fillers, RADIESSE stimulates the body to produce new collagen, so results will continue to develop over time even after your body has processed the filler. This means the results of a hand filler treatment can last up to a year or more!
Lucky for us, Barb was kind enough to answer some questions about her experience with this safe and effective treatment.
Why did you choose to treat your hands?
I was becoming increasingly self-conscious about my hands. Although I was happy with anti-aging treatments for my face, it was my hands that made me feel old. I’d look down and see very thin skin with protruding veins, and instantly, I felt like my hands were working against me!
The skin on our hands is often overlooked. Why do you think it’s important to ensure they’re well taken care of?
We use our hands so much. Just think of the way we greet people, with a handshake or even when you’re handing something to someone. People notice our nails, rings, and jewelry, and we want the appearance of our hands to make a good first impression!
What was the hand filler treatment like? Did it hurt?
It was truly a very simple procedure. It involved a quick injection to the back of the hand and then some massaging of the hand to help spread the filler around. There was little discomfort, except maybe a bit of tightness afterward. My hands did have a bit of swelling the day of the procedure, so making a fist felt slightly tight. I didn’t feel restricted in any way, and my day wasn’t interrupted at all.

Who is a good candidate?
To determine if you’re a good candidate, the best step would be to schedule a consultation with a member of our Beauty Nurse® team. Personally, I think anyone who has had volume loss in the back of their hands and wants to minimize the visibility of veins can benefit from this procedure. It truly gives a very natural-looking result!
How long before you saw results?
I could instantly see an improvement in my hands, but I worried that the plumpness was only due to the slight swelling. By the next day, the swelling was gone, and I was thrilled to see that my hands were no longer thin and veiny.
Are you happy with your results?
100%. Choosing to have the treatment was a no-brainer for me. It was quick and easy, and it has truly boosted my confidence. My hands are no longer shoved in my pockets!
How much does the hand filler treatment cost at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic?
The treatment costs $850 per syringe, and typically, only one syringe per hand is required for best results. The results can last up to a year or more and can be repeated as desired.
