What is chin filler?

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, Waterloo, Chin FillerSurely you’ve heard of dermal fillers, the popular volumizing treatment used for lip injections, face shaping, and smoothing lines and wrinkles. But did you know that this treatment can also be used for chin augmentation in individuals looking to improve their facial contour?

The chin is a defining facial feature. A strong chin and contoured jawline is often a sign of youth and beauty, so, when a patient’s chin is not proportionate to their face, it can make the nose look too large or too projecting, and the lips look out of proportion, causing them to feel embarrassed or self-conscious. Until recently, the only way to correct a poorly defined or under-projected chin was invasive surgery involving the placement of a chin implant. Chin filler now presents a non-surgical option without discomfort or downtime.

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a substance—often composed of hyaluronic acid—that when injected, can help restore lost volume and minimize telltale signs of aging non-surgically, and usually with almost no downtime.

How does a chin filler treatment work?

Once injected, dermal fillers work to add volume and definition to the chin. The result is a chin that is proportional, and in harmony with the natural features of your face for a more balanced appearance and profile.

What can I expect from treatment?

First, a member of The Beauty Nurse® team will evaluate your facial anatomy and select the dermal filler best suited to your individual goals. For chin filler treatments, we usually use JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, BELOTERO® VOLUME, Teosoyal®, or RADIESSE®.

The treatment itself will take about one hour, during which your Beauty Nurse® uses a fine needle to precisely inject the skin. The entire procedure is quick and easy, and because today’s fillers are formulated with lidocaine, a local anesthetic agent, there is very little if any discomfort.

What’s recovery like?

There is no recovery time associated with a chin filler treatment, so you can return to your day-to-day activities immediately. In some cases, you may experience some bruising, tenderness, and swelling at the injection site, which should subside quickly.

What results will I see?

Results may be noticed immediately but will continue to improve over the following 6 to 8 weeks. You’ll notice a more chiselled chin, a stronger profile, and a more harmonious balance of your facial features.

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, Waterloo, Chin Filler Before and After

This 38-year-old woman was unhappy with the shape and projection of her chin. She wanted a stronger profile. She underwent non-surgical chin augmentation using hyaluronic acid fillers. To achieve a more harmonious balance, she had some volume placed in her cheeks, and lips as well. The result seen is 3 months after the injection and shows a stable, well-balanced result with excellent chin projection.

How long do results last?

Results may vary depending on the patient and treatment goals, but typically last 9 to 12 months. We recommend repeat treatments to maintain results.

If a weak or poorly defined chin has you feeling self-conscious, schedule a consultation with a member of The Beauty Nurse® team to determine if a chin filler treatment is right for you.
