What Is Chin Filler? How Does It Benefit You?

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, Waterloo, Chin FillerYou’ve likely heard of dermal fillers, the popular volumizing treatment used for lip injections, face shaping, and smoothing wrinkles. But did you know that fillers can also be used for chin augmentation?

The chin is a defining facial feature; a strong chin and contoured jawline is a sign of youth and beauty. When a patient’s chin isn’t proportionate to their face, the nose can look too large and the lips out of proportion. Until recently, the only way to correct a poorly defined or under-projected chin was invasive chin implant surgery. Chin fillers like JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® give London, Waterloo, and other Southern Ontario men and women a non-surgical option that doesn’t involve discomfort or require downtime.

What do fillers do for your face?

A dermal filler is a substance—often composed of hyaluronic acid—that non-surgically restores lost volume, improves facial contours, and minimizes the telltale signs of aging when injected in specific areas of the face. It accomplishes these goals with almost no downtime for the patient.

How does a chin filler treatment work?

When injected in the chin area, dermal fillers add volume and definition to the chin. The result is a chin that is proportional and in harmony with the natural features of your face for a more balanced appearance and profile. You can see how we can balance the appearance of the chin’s alignment and proportions in our patients’ chin filler before-and-after pictures.

Your provider may also recommend fillers in other areas of the face to bring all your facial features into harmony. These additional options include lip augmentation, cheek or jaw fillers, or liquid rhinoplasty.

What happens during chin filler treatment?

First, a member of The Beauty Nurse® team will evaluate your facial anatomy and select the type of dermal filler best suited to your individual goals. For chin filler treatments, we usually use JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC, BELOTERO® VOLUME, Teosoyal®, or RADIESSE®.

The treatment itself will take about one hour, during which your Beauty Nurse® uses a fine needle to precisely inject the filler under the skin. The entire procedure is quick and easy. Learn more about the steps of a dermal filler treatment from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Is chin filler painful?

Today’s fillers are formulated with lidocaine, a local anesthetic agent, so there is very little, if any, discomfort. Some people report feeling a slight pricking sensation while the nurse is injecting the filler, but most say it’s relatively pain-free. After your treatment, applying a cold compress can reduce any lingering discomfort.

How long does it take for chin filler to heal?

Unlike chin augmentation surgery, there is no incision to heal when you receive chin fillers. In fact, there is no recovery time associated with a chin filler treatment, so you can return to your day-to-day activities immediately post-treatment. Bruising, tenderness, and swelling at the injection site are possible after the treatment, but those side effects tend to subside quickly.

What results to expect after fillers in the chin?

Results may be noticed immediately but will continue to improve over the following 6 to 8 weeks. You’ll notice a more chiselled chin, a stronger profile, and a more harmonious balance of your facial features.

The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, Waterloo, Chin Filler Before and After

This 38-year-old woman was unhappy with the shape and projection of her chin. She wanted a stronger profile and underwent non-surgical chin augmentation using hyaluronic acid fillers. To achieve a more harmonious balance, she had some volume placed in her cheeks and lips as well. The result seen is 3 months after the injection and shows a stable, well-balanced result with excellent chin projection.

How long does filler last in the chin?

Results may vary depending on the patient and treatment goals but typically last 9 to 12 months. We recommend repeat treatments to maintain results.

If a weak or poorly defined chin has you feeling self-conscious, schedule a consultation with a member of The Beauty Nurse® team to determine if a chin filler treatment is right for you.
